TURPIE (Canada) Fondaparinux (Arixtra®) is a synthetic antithrombotic agent with specific anti-factor Xa activity. Its pharmacokinetic properties allow for a single daily injection without the need for monitoring. It was recently compared with enoxaparin for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in major orthopedic surgery in 4 randomized doubleblind studies.
